Tullayr Simmentals

Hi, I am George Wragge and I own and run Tullayr Simmentals. The name “Tullayr” is based on combining two old Wragge family farm names being “Tulla” and “Ayr” hence Tullayr. Simmentals were chosen due to their maternal characteristics. High fertility, milking ability and structural soundness gives the breed the ability to produce a quick growing, high yielding calf at an earlier age. Simmentals offer an excellent source of hybrid vigour and would complement any cross breeding program, boosting your profit margins.

I studied and completed a Bachelor of Rural Science through the University of New England. My time at University gave me an opportunity to partake in many extracurricular activities including being a representative for the young cattle producers. Meat judging was another activity in which I was heavily involved, in 2006 I was fortunate enough to represent Australia in the USA for meat judging.

I have been involved in many aspects of the beef industry, from working for Davidson Cameron and Clydesdale, a stock and station agency in Scone, to Beak and Johnston a meat trading and value adding business in Sydney. These experiences have given me a keen eye for cattle both live through the sale yards and in the paddock, to in the chillers as packaged, portioned cuts of beef.

Tullayr is situated 10 minutes north of Scone in the Upper Hunter of NSW. A small but progressive herd exists with expansion developing through opportunities to purchase further females through dispersal sales and retention of quality young females from within herd. Bulls are sold privately and are enhancing clients herds throughout NSW and QLD.

Cattle have been exhibited successfully both at regional shows, and at the Sydney Royal Easter show, with numerous red, blue and broad ribbons being won. Showing allows a comparable comparison between breeding herds and is an enjoyable experience. However, I am committed to producing commercially viable cattle and recognise the “time and place” for show cattle.

Please feel free to browse the site and get in contact with me if you have any questions or queries relating to the site or my cattle.

Cheers,

George Wragge
